What is SSB Interview?

Overview of SSB Tests / Interview (Intelligence and Personality Tests)

SSB Tests / Interview at SSB (Service Selection Board) consist of two stage Selection process – stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I appear for stage II.

Stage I tests comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test and Picture Perception & Description Test (PPDT). The candidates are shortlisted based on combination of their performance in OIR Test and PPDT.

Stage II tests comprise of, Psychology Tests, Group Tests, Interview and the Conference.

The tests in Stage I & II are conducted over a period of 4 to 5 days. The personality of a candidate is assessed by three different assessor viz. the Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and the Psychologist, during these days. The marks are allotted by assessors only after taking into consideration the performance of the candidate holistically in the all tests. In addition, marks for Conference are also allotted based on the initial performance of the Candidate in the three techniques and decision of the Board. All these have equal weight-age. The various tests i.e. Interview, Group Tests and Psychology Test are designed to test the presence/absence of Officer Like Qualities (OLQ’s) and their trainability in a candidate. Accordingly candidates are Recommended or Not Recommended at the SSB.

Screening Tests at SSB

Interview Test at SSB

In interview, during SSB, a candidate’s English communication skills, confidence, ability to express himself / herself etc. are tested through a series of questions and situations. Most of the questions are based on personal details furnished by a candidate during SSB. Also, awareness of a candidate on current affairs is tested during Interview in SSB.
